AERIAL AND UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION TECHS NEEDED

Location: Texas, Oregon, Washington & California

Preferred Hiring Terms: Full Time Employee/Independent Contractor

Start Date: March 1, 2016 or sooner

Summary:
The individuals in this position will work with other technicians to accomplish outside plant duties and activities. The main focus of the job is to assist the area manager / supervisor by providing field support. The outside plant technician should expect to spend the majority of their time in the field but should also expect to complete administrative tasks as required by the manager. Although the work schedule does vary, the outside plant technician may be required to work extensive hours and/or after normal work hours. The outside plant technician may have to work up to 6-day work weeks, required to travel, and possibly be listed on a rotating on call schedule.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
– Climb telephone poles and ladders, enter tunnels, buildings, vaults, trenches, attics, crawl spaces or man holes to place, maintain or remove wiring or equipment. Work in remote and rough terrain locations. Work outside and will be exposed to all weather conditions as well as dirt, grease and wood preservatives. Wear appropriate safety equipment and follow established safety practices and procedures.
– Perform construction work such as digging holes, placing poles, laying cable in the ground, unreeling, pulling and stringing wire and cable from pole to pole by perceiving differences in wire and cable colors to place fiber cable from Central Office through conduit or attach pole lines to customer business or distribution points in the loop.

– Dismantle, move or remove aerial, underground or building wire, cable, associated equipment, poles and hardware as per the customer and supervisory order.

– Required to communicate with customers, supervisors and upper management, using formal business English via email, personally or phone to help maintain code and guidelines of the company and to communicate job status and issues surrounding daily activities. Required to complete and supply necessary documentation for daily reporting.

– Adheres to all company employee safety, and customer rules and policies. This includes, but is not limited to, appearance codes and vehicle policies.

– Performs all other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
Work outside in all types of weather.
Must be able to lift, handle, and carry 80-pound ladder and meet ladder safety requirements.
Must be able to work at heights of 3-25 ft.
Must be able to bend, stand, sit, crawl, climb, and lift throughout each work day.
Must be able to operate bucket trucks and aerial lifts.
Required to frequently stand, walk, and sit. Required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch to wire cables and string wire.

 

Miscellaneous Skills / Considerations:
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet Broadband Service Group driving criteria guidelines.
Must be able to pass a background check, per company policy.
Must be a drug free individual
Must be strongly mechanically inclined.

FIBER OSP/ISP DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Director of Operations
Summary: The Director of Operations is responsible for the day-to-da operating activities of the Project Location. The Director will work with department leaders to tailor action plans to each unit and monitors progress against milestones ad goals.  The Director exhibits the following behaviors: excellence and competence, teamwork, innovation, respect, personalization and accountability. Oversees budgets and ensures resources are properly allocated. Ensures departments meet individual goals.

 

Must have experience dealing with a construction sub-contractor and in-house model.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.)

 

  • Management of client relationship, warehouse/logistics multi-site operations, and client and operation market needs.
  • Manage the construction and engineering operations and schedules of our customer’s fiber OSP/ISP FTTH network
  • Work with support staff to develop construction schedules, monitor production, and ensure adherence to customer schedule/specifications.
  • Responsible for staffing forecast, directing, placement and replenishment of staff to meet the client’s production requirements.
  • Management of in house production employee’s quality and production levels.
  • Develop strategies and tactics for improving operation efficiencies while improving service levels, employee retention and operational costs.
  • Provide leadership and assume responsibility for the functional and financial control including development and management of monthly/quarterly and annual budgets.
  • Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures and maintains effective internal control.
  • Act as a liaison to Corporate Shared Services, coordinate communication and resolutions to problems and concerns within the operations.
  • Directly supervise project managers, construction managers and office staff.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 to 10 years of Operation Management experience; managing large, highly-complex, OSP/ISP FTTH projects.
  • Well-developed management skills
  • Experience coordinating work schedules in a dynamic environment to meet intermediate and completion milestones.
  • Experience managing OSP/ISP construction and vendor management including selection, contract, and negotiation processes, production tracking and reporting, and project closeout and retainage release.
  • Knowledge of network drawings, route maps and scopes of work interpreting fiber test results and auditing projects for compliance with scopes of work.
  • Robust knowledge of inside and outside plant fiber optic network infrastructure, engineering design and construction, and the ability to work cross-functionally to design and build scalable construction, installation and support process.
  • Proven ability to motivate personnel in order to balance profitability and growth.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with acquisitions and integration a plus.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Must possess exceptional analytical skills, a high level of attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of the cable and telecommunications industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Construction Accounting experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel as required.

 

Education and/or Experience:

BS in Construction Management preferred or equivalent of five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
